The Mill Tract land changed hands many times. This Abstract of Title contains nearly 200 pages that document ownership of the land.
Documentation begins with a certified copy of a Spanish land grant dated 1831.
The original land grant was made to Juan Martin de Veramendi, former governor of colonial Spanish Texas. The document also mentions his brother-in-law, Jose Antonio Navarro, future statesman of the Republic of Texas.
The description of the land included the springs that form the San Marcos River.
