Glass-Bottom Boat Restoration

Spring Lake's glass-bottom boat tours remained a popular attraction. However, after decades of service, it was apparent that the boats themselves needed attention.

The restoration process began in 2000, when Pinnacle Boats in Austin, Texas, took on the project to restore the boats to their original condition. In 2014, The Meadows Center began replacing the wooden framed hulls with a fiberglass composite. This material is stronger and more water-resistant than wood, thus extending the life of the boats. Because each boat was hand-made, individual custom hulls were crafted to fit each of the five boats in The Meadows Center's fleet.

Glass-bottom boat tours continue to run daily, upholding a seventy-year tradition of celebrating Spring Lake's underwater wonders.
