The Story of the Stallions
Since its arrival on campus seventy years ago, the sculpture titled Fighting Stallions has been a focal point on the Quad. Millions of people have walked by the statue, likely without realizing that it is the work of a world-renowned artist who gifted it to Southwest Texas State College back in 1951. Standing 15 feet high and made of cast aluminum, the statue remains a well-known and easily recognized part of the campus.

Why are the Fighting Stallions at Texas State, home of the Bobcats?
The story of how this artwork came to be a part of the Texas State landscape is the focus of this exhibition. Drawing primarily from the Fighting Stallions statue collection, the story of the Stallions is documented in the correspondence of the University’s third President, Dr. John Garland Flowers.
