Pvt. Percival D. Whipple Letters
The Private Percival Dodge Whipple Letters were found and purchased on eBay by Mr. Dan Utley. The full collection was processed and donated to the University Archives by Mr. Utley and his Local and Community History class of Spring 2017. Percival Dodge Whipple, born April 19th 1895 in Hamilton Massachusetts, was a private stationed at Kelly Field and Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX during World War I. Before joining the Aviation Section Signal Corps, Pvt. Whipple attended Harvard and graduated in 1916. Pvt. Whipple was discharged from service on February 7th 1919, married Elinor Glover Robertson (spelled Eleanor in letters) on May 26th 1923. Percival Whipple later worked as a lineman for the New England Telephone & Telegram Company in Massachusetts. The collection, housed in one document box, consists of nine folders of letters written by Private Percival Whipple from January 1917 to December 1919.
