Strahan's Early Years
Oscar William Strahan was born just outside of Denison, Iowa on August 10th, 1891. He became interested in sports at a young age before playing on the football, track, and basketball teams at Drake University, a private university located in Des Moines, Iowa. Strahan graduated from Drake in 1915 with a bachelor’s degree in science. Strahan then spent the next three years as a high school sports coach and science teacher, first in nearby Perry and then in Clinton, Iowa.
