Color Change, 1970s

The Stallions stood on the Quad near the Fine Arts Building (now Tayor-Murphy) for nearly 30 years. They were such a familiar symbol of campus that they remained a popular subject of postcards - most often with the Old Main in the background.

From Bare Aluminum to Brown

In the 1970s, the University Star reported several instances of vandalism that resulted in the statue being painted.  The fine details of Anna's sculpting eventually became hidden beneath layers of brown paint.  Since most of the photographs of the statue taken in the 1950s and 1960s were in black and white, it's likely that few people noticed the change.
